Seventh Son, which we will always refer to as Jeff Bridges: Dragon Fighter, has had a rough go of it. The movie was supposed to come out in February of 2013. Instead, it’s opening this Friday. That’s a two year delay for a movie that was already going to be dumped in a slow month despite starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, and Djimon Hounsou.
Somehow, the marketing department decided to pay Super Bowl prices for the short TV spot above. They managed to tone down some of the cheesiness of the first trailer, but you can still tell it’s the first English film by director Sergei Bodrov, hence the lower-budget-CGI-heavy-Russian-fantasy-adventure vibe.
Unfortunately, they seem to have also excised anything that would explain the story. Jeff Bridges plays a knight who imprisoned an evil witch (Julianne Moore). She escapes, and now Bridges has until the next full moon to train his apprentice (Ben Barnes). Is this a total waste of Oscar-winning talent like Jeff Bridges and multiple-Oscar-nominated talents like Julianne Moore and Djimon Hounsou? Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.
