After keeping mum last week on renewals, CBS is moving forward with an eye on Wednesday's upfront presentation to advertisers.
CBS has renewed eight dramas, a comedy and a trio of reality favorites, plus two veteran newsmagazines that weren't going anywhere anyway.
TV's most watched network picked up most of its bubble dramas, including a sixth season for “Hawaii Five-0” and “Blue Bloods,” a seventh season of “NCIS: Los Angeles,” a fifth season of “Person of Interest,” a seventh season of “The Good Wife” and a fourth season of “Elementary.”
Only a couple of those shows were really on the bubble and then there were the CBS no-brainer renewals that are now official, including a 13th season of “NCIS” and an 11th season of “Criminal Minds.”
On the drama side, CBS also picked up a second season of “CSI: Cyber,” which means that CBS will still have one “CSI” property on the schedule. As for the “CSI” mothership? After 15 seasons, it appears that “CSI” won't be back for a full season, but the network is still working on an approach to give the venerable series a finale send-off, though nothing is official.
CBS had previously renewed “Madam Secretary,” “Scorpion” and “NCIS: New Orleans.”
This leaves “Stalker” and “Battle Creek” cancelled. Sorry, “Stalker” and “Battle Creek” fans.
On the comedy side, CBS had previously renewed “The Big Bang Theory,” “Mike & Molly,” “Mom.”
With “The McCarthys” predictably deceased, CBS has renewed its only bubble comedy, giving a second season to “The Odd Couple,” ending a rough string of post-“Friends” one-and-done series for Matthew Perry.
Considering that CBS has been hyping up the fan-voted “Second Chance” aspect of “Survivor 31,” you probably won't be surprised that “Survivor” has been renewed. Also returning next year” “Undercover Boss” and, despite a Friday ratings swoon, “The Amazing Race.”
Of course, “48 Hours” and “60 Minutes” have been renewed.
Stay tuned for CBS' full schedule announcement and other fun stuff on Wednesday, May 13.
