Supergirl, meet Jane the Virgin. You're about to be spending a lot of time together in a new CW lineup that's more comic book-dependent than ever before.
In the network's new schedule, announced this morning, Supergirl will join Jane the Virgin on Monday nights, and will be on in the fall along with The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. Another new comic book property, Riverdale (based on Archie) will be at midseason, along with holdovers iZombie, The 100, The Originals, and Reign.
The schedule, night-by-night:
MONDAY: As mentioned, Supergirl at 8 (the same timeslot where it aired on CBS) and Jane at 9.
TUESDAY: The Flash now leads into No Tomorrow, a romantic comedy with an apocalyptic twist, where one half of the couple is convinced the world is soon ending.
WEDNESDAY: Arrow leads into Frequency, an adaptation of the Jim Caviezel/Dennis Quaid movie about a cop (here a woman played by Peyton List) whose dead father begins communicating with the future via an old ham radio.
THURSDAY: Legends of Tomorrow gets to debut in the fall this time, with a reshuffled cast of heroes and villains, leading into Supernatural, which will likely still be on the air after the CW has turned into another network entirely.
FRIDAY: An odd pairing: Vampire Diaries at 8, leading into Crazy Ex-Girlfriend at 9. Crazy Ex was seemingly a good tonal match with Jane, but its Monday ratings were dire, and the show was seemingly picked up mainly due to awards love (Rachel Bloom won a Golden Globe) and critical praise. So putting it at the end of the least-watched night of the week that the CW programs seems like a way to keep it around without harming the bottom line too much.
