The Late Late Show with James Corden's “Drop the Mic” bit was destined to become its own series as soon as Anne Hathaway appeared on the segment. After all, the news comes shortly after the show's other popular segment, Carpool Karaoke, got picked up by Apple Music. (And there's no doubt that the success of Spike's Lip Sync Battle, also based on a segment from a different late night show, factored into the decision too.)
Drop The Mic “will pit four celebrities against each other in a rap battle royale packed with “I can't believe they just said that” moments” with the studio audience choosing the winner. Though 16 episodes have been picked up to series, TBS still has not announced a host.
The show will air in 2017.
