As the negative reviews for Suicide Squad continue to have fans in an uproar and members of the DC Extended Universe bewildered and angry, it’s safe to say that director David Ayer is having a bad week. At the very least, he’s not having the week that he expected, as he went from celebrating his new film with diehard fans and a cast that has by all accounts come together like family to presumably avoiding Google searches of his name until at least September. As he defends his film as fan service in the wake of many bad reviews, Ayer is still also dealing with backlash from one particular moment at the Suicide Squad premiere.
After one fan in attendance shouted, “F*ck Marvel!” Ayer echoed his sentiment and repeated the line in a heat-of-the-moment situation. Obviously that generated plenty of headlines, and the director was quick to tweet an apology to kill that negative attention. Perhaps sensing that Ayer isn’t having the best week, Marvel god Stan Lee came to the rescue, offering his support.

That came on the heels of Marvel CCO Joe Quesada asking fans to “cut Ayer a break,” as he too realizes that taking this film rivalry seriously is just plain dumb.
Hey Marvel faithful I know you’re upset but cut @DavidAyerMovies a break, it was all in good fun. Can’t wait to see SS, best of luck David!

On Thursday morning, Ayer acknowledged Lee’s support, tipping his cap to the Marvel universe as well.
You're The Man sir. You made my childhood a nicer place! https://t.co/OL97XfQcTn

He probably isn’t done retweeting positive reactions to Suicide Squad either, so maybe he’s not having such a bad week after all.
