Kevin Smith didn’t even take the holidays off this winter because he was so excited about shooting the Jay And Silent Bob Reboot. As the film dove into the thick of production, he’s confirmed the return of Brodie (Jason Lee’s character from Mallrats) and nodded toward the unrealized Clerks 3 while continuing a constant stream of updates for fans. In the above video posted on Friday, Smith shows off more of his (new) girl gang, who will appear about halfway through the reboot. In the above video, he explains more about the gang while also hinting at some softer moments:
“In Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, we had a girl gang and they were in a van. As you can see, we got another van and we got another girl gang. Essentially Brodie communicated that reboots have youth and diversity … If Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was like a Looney Tunes cartoon, Reboot is like an episode of The Simpsons where you laugh a lot but then they also pull on your heartstrings as well.”
The original girl gang mentioned by Smith was played by Shannon Elizabeth (who’s returning as Justice in the reboot), Ali Larter, Eliza Dushku, and Jennifer Schwalbach Smith. This time, he’s going for a diverse approach while including Alice Wen, Treshelle Edmond, Aparna Brielle, and (his daughter) Harley Quinn Smith. All the while, Harley Quinn the character (obviously played by Margot Robbie) is rearing up to star in her own girl gang movie, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). It’s a girl-gang-off!
In addition, Smith has done the “18 Year Challenge” to point out how his Jay And Silent Bob core cast (Jason Mewes, Nick Fehlinger and Jake Richardson) has changed over the years. And yes, he’s calling the reboot his “marijuana magnum opus.”

By the way, this week wasn’t the first time that Smith showed off the girl gang. He previously also did so on International Women’s Day.
Smith’s Jay And Silent Bob Reboot doesn’t have an official release date yet, but he’s targeting fall 2019.
