Marvel is doing everything they can to push the subgenre-based efforts of their Phase Two films. Iron Man 3 was a technothriller, Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a political thriller, and Guardians of the Galaxy was a space opera in the vein of Flash Gordon and Star Wars.
And then there’s Ant-Man, the Paul Rudd-led heist film that imagines asking and answering the question, “What if George Clooney and his pals had shrinking technology in Ocean’s Eleven?” Hence the latest featurette from the studio’s Disney-funded marketing team.
However, as with each new trailer, TV spot and clip, they’ve also included a few bits of unseen footage — including a ponderous, those-were-the-days Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) playing around with his patented Pym particles in his home laboratory.
That’s a cool party trick.
Then again, we mustn’t forget Douglas’ interpretation of what Pym’s “GET OFF MY LAWN” line might be at the 0:23 mark.
