Rotting-mouthed rapper Lil Wayne is the worst kind of sports fan, which also happens to be one of the lowest forms of human: the bandwagon jumper, something even his fans are well aware of and ridicule him over. Basically whatever team is “hot” at any particular moment, then that’s Lil Wayne’s team. Over the past few of years in the NBA alone, Wayne has been a “fan” of the Lakers, Knicks, Bulls, Hornets (back when they still had Chris Paul and were winning games) and the Heat, among others. Hilariously, he pulled for the Heat in the NBA finals last year but later celebrated with the Dallas Mavericks in South Beach clubs after they defeated the Heat.
In the NFL, Wayne famously came out as a fan of the Minnesota Vikings just before they played his hometown team, my beloved New Orleans Saints, in the 2009 NFC championship game because, in his words, “Brett Favre is my boy.” The next year he morphed into a Packers fan. Go figure.
So it shouldn’t come as any surprise now that Lil Wayne is now trying to climb aboard the Oklahoma City Thunder bandwagon, as they’re the exciting new kid on the NBA block. Thankfully though, the team has a strict “buy a ticket if you want to come to a game” policy it actually enforces, which led to Wayne bitchily tweeting out the following just before the Thunder played the Spurs last night…
So of course there’s more to this than meets the eye, and it essentially involves Lil Wayne expecting to just show up at the arena and have the team kick real fans of the team out of their courtside seats so he and his crew could sit in them instead.
Whatever you do, don’t weep for Lil Wayne — he’ll probably be back on the Hornets bandwagon soon.
Ugh, Lil Wayne is the worst.
