As I write this, reports are starting to come in that are providing some clarity to this whole American swimmers (maybe) getting robbed in Rio mess. That now leaves the status of Frank Ocean’s album Boys Don’t Cry as America’s biggest mystery. Well, that and the appeal of Jared on Bachelor in Paradise. Yet, while we are still not any closer to actually hearing Ocean’s mysterious and long-awaited follow up to Channel Orange, little nuggets of information continue to emerge about the recording of the album.
The latest bits of Ocean-related news comes from rapper Lil B. Speaking to Dazed at the Flow Festival in Finland, the Berkeley, California-based rapper talked about working with Ocean on Boys Don’t Cry, as well as offering up thoughts on a variety of other topics. Other topics are cool and we’ll get to those in second, but as far as working with Ocean goes, The Based God briefly discussed working with the part-time wood-worker.
“Frank Ocean was amazing. He called me to come out and do some stuff for his album, Boys Don’t Cry, that’s coming out. Frank is amazing. He’s a beautiful man with a beautiful voice. He’s a very strong man, a very strong person. Anything that I can do to help him, I will.”
So the album is coming out? Well that’s pretty dope and the closest thing we’ve gotten to any kind of decent confirmation to date.
“If Frank releases. Let’s see what Frank releases. Frank has the material.”
Son of biscuit.
So close.
Also in the interview Lil B talked about Republican presidential candidateDonald Trump:
“I’m not really paying attention to Donald Trump. I respect him as a businessman, but I don’t know much of him as a politician but I don’t really pay attention to him. I can’t talk too much about him.”
The Black Lives Matter movement:
“Well, I’m black (laughs)! You know I think with Black Lives Matter, it is extremely special and important. I definitely feel that.”
Whether he’d call himself a Feminist and his view on women:
“I definitely see myself as as much a feminist as I can try to be. I know I’m not perfect, but I definitely feel the connection with women. I feel them. I appreciate women so much. I think the part that they play is that I just admire women. I love every part of the woman. I think the woman is what is amazing. I think humans are amazing. I’m a big fan of women – I’m just a big fan.”
Lil B also talked about “Free Love,” his recent collaboration with fellow rapper Vic Mensa:
“My perspective is that I love the movement. I love LGBT, I love gays, I love people, so I just did that because I wanted listeners to know that it’s important. I support people and I support that, so I wanted to put my Based stamp on that. I support them.”
God bless Based God. You can read the full interview HERE.
