The entire purpose of the Uproxx original series, Uncharted, is to shine a light on unrecognized talent in the hopes that the music-loving public will perk up their ears and maybe give a unique and richly deserving artist a few spins.
But even we couldn’t predict how ridiculously huge EDM DJ NGHTMRE would get in the last year since we interviewed him.
In the ludicrously crowded and top-heavy world of EDM, NGHTMRE is managing to carve out a major space for himself. And we’re not talking throwaway sets at sparsely attended festivals. Along with his long-time friends in the DJ duo Slander, the North Carolina-bred entertainer sold out Hollywood’s historic Palladium in 14 minutes. Demand was so high that the two acts set up a second show the next night to accommodate all of their fans.
That would be impressive enough on its own, but that’s far from the only thing that the 25-year-old born Tyler Marenyi has done since we last talked. He snagged a coveted midnight slot at Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the genre: people like Flux Pavilion, Dillon Francis and Krewella.
With that in mind, we decided to catch up with the busy DJ/producer, who revealed that on top of all that, he’s gearing up for a massive North American tour that will feature the most ambitious sets and visuals that he’s ever attempted.
“It’s definitely going to be, in terms of production and lighting and visuals, way better than any of the shows we’ve ever done,” he tells us.
