Rebel Wilson is never afraid to go for it when it comes to being daring in comedy, but at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, the Pitch Perfect star performed a bit that was a bit tone deaf, according to some. While presenting the award for the Best Hip Hop Video, Rebel dressed as a police officer only to rip off her uniform to reveal a shirt that read “F*ck The Stripper Police.,” and started to perform a monologue that joke about police brutality by referring to exotic dancers who dress as cops as the “real” problem:
“A lot of people have problem with the police, but I really hate police strippers. You guys know what I’m talking about. They come to your house, you think you’re getting arrested, and you just get a lap dance that is usually uninspired! I hired police stripper for my grandma’s 80th, and he wouldn’t even feel her up…. I hate this injustice, hence the shirt.”
As you could possibly expect, the joking about police brutality and making light of a touchy subject, did not go over well on Twitter.
Rebel Wilson, please do not turn police brutality into a comedy bit–
