When you think of receivers in college football with the potential to make “catch of the year” type plays, you probably think of big-time college wideouts like Baylor’s Cory Coleman, Josh Doctson of TCU, or maybe even Notre Dame’s William Fuller.
Who you don’t think of is Illir Emini, from division three Knox College. Yet, when it’s all said and done, he very well may have the best catch of the entire 2015 season.
Knox was taking on Lawrence College when quarterback Matt McCaffery rolled right and threw it downfield to Emini. The ball however was underthrown, and a Lawrence defensive back had good coverage, so it looked for all intents and purposes like a sure incompletion.
Emini had other ideas. While he was adjusting back to the ball, the wideout somehow managed to kick it up into the air and catch it while on the ground for an absolutely ridiculous 37-yard completion.
It’s early in the season so there very well could be another contender for college “catch of the year,” but the combination of athleticism and awareness (along with a little bit of luck) displayed by Emini here will without a doubt make it tough to beat.
