So, here’s the thing.
I don’t know what to make of the whole Mariah Carey/Nicki Minaj/American Idol/Thunderdome situation. (Note to self: Pitch Diva Thunderdome to television types.) I don’t know if it’s real, or if it’s a pure publicity stunt, or if it’s some devious hybrid of the two where Fox executives are gleefully capitalizing on things to boost ratings, or if it’s an even more devious hybrid where they knowingly hired a bunch of flammable personalities and locked them in a room with a blowtorch and sat around waiting for things to go kaboom. (For what it’s worth, noted conflict resolution manager and possible alien Cee Lo is calling bullsh-t — or parakeetsh-t, or unicornsh-t, or whatever it is that Cee Lo calls in these situations.) The whole thing is confusing, and I care less and less about it with every update I see.
But here’s something I do know: The Taiwanese animation of it is fantastic. My three favorite parts are as follows:
- The descriptions of Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson as Ass Judge and Black Judge, respectively. Because, well, yeah. Sometimes the truest explanations are the simplest.
- The part where they said Mariah Carey called Nicki Minaj “a ghetto baby” and they magically transformed Nicki Minaj into a tiny, gun-toting, yellow-haired toddler. Is it racist? Quite. But I have been a supporter of cartoon babies shooting at pop stars in wrestling rings for a long time now, so I will take what I can get
- The depiction of Randy Jackson and Keith Urban “diffusing” the situation, which consisted of Keith Urban dumping a bucket of ice on Mariah Carey, and Randy Jackson trying to strangle Nicki Minaj with a wire. Seems reasonable to me.
