As we discussed back when the carnival/circus rumors about the upcoming season were confirmed, it was only a matter of time before Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story trotted out a big scary clown. And trot out a big scary clown it shall, as Murphy revealed to EW in a brief chat.
“I thought it was going to be light but it’s turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark, which it feels much more like the Asylum season. But look — if you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark.”
So does that mean there’s a scary clown? “Yes,” confirms Murphy. “The most terrifying clown ever!” [EW]
So, wait. Is Clown Killer “the most terrifying clown ever”? Like, does the name Clown Killer literally refer to a clown who kills? Or does Clown Killer means “one who kills clowns,” possibly including (but not limited to) the one Murphy identified as “the most terrifying clown ever”? Because, if it’s the latter, and there’s going to be a murderous vigilante running around offing clowns and maybe keeping their big red noses as mementos of his crimes, GOOD. That’s a show I can get behind.
In a related story, there are so, so many pictures of scary clowns in the Shutterstock archives, which means there are lots of photo shoots of scary clowns taking place, which means there are lots of models who spend lots of time getting made-up like clowns and holding knives, like the gentleman pictured above. Soooo…
WOMAN: What do you do?
MAN: I’m a model.
WOMAN: Oooo. Anything I’ve seen?
MAN: [pulls up that image on iPhone]
WOMAN: [calls police while running away and screaming]
