UPDATE: Here’s Dave Chappelle’s Full Letterman Interview, Complete With Funny & Insightful Thoughts On Money
I’m sure there will be much more to share from this interview later, but CBS posted a preview clip for Dave Chappelle’s first Late Show interview in ten years and it’s fantastic advertising.
Letterman basically asks Chappelle the question that many have wondered for years now: What happened with Chappelle’s Show? And Chappelle answered:
“Listen, here it is…Technically, I never quit. I’m seven years late for work.”
So I guess this means more Chappelle’s Show in the near future, right? Right?
Chappelle has been very mum on the issue since the end of the show. He had an interview with Oprah back in 2006 following his trip to South Africa and amid questions about season three of the show, but not much since. Back then he was willing to return, but then Comedy Central aired the fabled “lost season” and removed any chance of the show returning with Chappelle.
And it’s probably for the best. Being burned out by work isn’t enjoyable, even if it is at such a high level. Plus he’s clearly more comfortable on the stage, without that buffer to dictate what can go in and out.
I’m excited to see what else is in store for the interview. This is a great teaser compared to what usually gets put out.
