KTVA-TV (Alaska) reporter Charlo Greene was wrapping up an informative report about the Alaska Cannabis Club on Sunday night when she dropped a journalism ethics-smashing bombshell: She’s not only a supporter of the club, but the owner, and she would be stepping down from her post at KTVA to run the organization full time, effective immediately.

Or, in her words: “F*ck it, I quit.”

The club — which “connects Medical Marijuana patients in need to Alaskan cardholders with green” — had used its Facebook page to urge followers to tune in to the broadcast. KTVA later told the Alaska Dispatch News that it had no idea Greene was planning to quit.

As for why Greene stepped down in such dramatic fashion…

“Because I wanted to draw attention to this issue. And the issue is medical marijuana. Ballot Measure 2 is a way to make medical marijuana real … most patients didn’t know the state didn’t set up the framework to get patients their medicine.”

“If I offended anyone, I apologize, but I’m not sorry for the choice that I made,” she said.

KTVA posted a statement on its Facebook page shortly after the broadcast: “We sincerely apologize for the inappropriate language used by a KTVA reporter during her live presentation on the air tonight. The employee has been terminated.”

I’m sure she’s devastated.
