As if the Festival Supreme at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles wasn’t already loaded with an amazing lineup, the event’s hosts had to go and reunite The State for the first time in five years to really seal in the awesome freshness. Those hosts are, of course, Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, and they were just two of the performers in an incredible lineup at this year’s Festival Supreme, which included Cheech & Chong, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader together again, Drunk History, Heidecker & Wood, Eagles of Death Metal, the guys from Workaholics, and a slew of standup comics that we all love. But with all due respect to all of the hilarious acts, nothing tops being able to watch all of the members of MTV’s classic sketch comedy show reunite and perform some classic characters one more time.
Of course, Black was just taking a shot in the dark when he asked the members if they’d like to reunite. After all, Tom Lennon and Ben Garant have their screenwriting careers, Ken Marino is starring in the hilarious new NBC comedy Marry Me, Joe Lo Truglio is tied with the rest of the cast of Brooklyn Nine Nine for my favorite part of that series, and Michael Ian Black is complaining about stuff on Twitter. But imagine Jack Black’s delight when all of them agreed to do it.
“We don’t get to be the State very often,” Michael Ian Black reminded attendees, “so it’s great when we get a chance to come together and do the thing that we do best — which is collect money for sketches that we wrote 25 years ago.” Popular characters such as Seventies smooth-talkers Barry and Levon, Michael Showalter’s rebellious teenager Doug and Marino’s catchphrase-happy Louie made quick cameos in a “tribute” to Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” the crowd shouting along as the latter declared, “I wanna dip my balls in it!” (Via Rolling Stone)

The bad news is that while The State performed for 45 minutes, there’s only 18 minutes of video on YouTube, as of right now. The good news, though, is that there’s still 18 minutes of video for those of us who weren’t lucky enough to be there.
And because we’ve all been good boys and girls, here’s a performance from Eagles of Death Metal.
