When word began spreading like deadly green wildfire that HBO was developing a Game of Thrones “special” to be aired ahead of Season 5, fans of the series obviously became very excited. On one hand, it could be something awful along the lines of the Star Wars Christmas Special, but on the other hand, it could be something amazing like a Valentine’s Day spectacular hosted by Cersei and Jaime Lannister. Boy, it sure will be awkward when Tywin stops by! Regardless, it’s an extra half hour or so of Game of Thrones and that’s just downright wonderful.
Alas, if you have your hearts set on sex advice from the Seven Kingdoms’ most inappropriate siblings, Entertainment Weekly has some bad news for you. It turns out that this mysterious Game of Thrones special is actually going to be a look at the production of the series.
The special is titled Game of Thrones: A Day in the Life. It’s a half-hour documentary that covers one day of season 5 production on three different Thrones sets in three different countries – Belfast, Northern Ireland; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Sevilla and Osuna, Spain. The special follows key crew members and promises to highlight “the epic sets, renowned cast and global scale of Thrones, as well as the more intimate and individual challenges of our subjects, giving the audience a new perspective on one of the most elaborate productions in television history.” (Via EW)
That still sounds pretty awesome. I just hope that at least 15 minutes of the special will be devoted to the show’s casting assistants teasing that huge line of extras that showed up to the set in Spain by making them perform “Shake it Off” and improv comedy scenes. Game of Thrones: A Day in the Life will air on Feb. 8 at 7:30 PM ET.
