“Not right away” said Jon Stewart when he announced that he was leaving The Daily Show, indicating that his contract was up in December, but that his exit could come in July or even December. There was comfort in that vagueness. It almost didn’t feel real — even after Trevor Noah was picked to be Stewart’s successor — but now the sadness countdown can begin, because Jon Stewart has announced that August 6th will be his last show as the host of The Daily Show.
Where he will go now that he is free from a job that has seemingly started to bore him and bum him out a bit? Where will his viewers go after 17 years of feeding off of his comedy, his intellect, and his outrage over the shape of the world? And when will Trevor Noah begin his term as host? These are all big questions that will be answered in time (with Noah’s premiere date on-deck), but for now the focus shifts to what kind of send-off Stewart has in mind for himself, how many former correspondents will be on hand to celebrate their old boss, and (most importantly) how these last three-and-a-half months will add to his legacy on The Daily Show. Cause the world’s gonna keep on spinning.
