The Boondocks Saints, the movie everyone’s older brother was talking about back in 2000, got a sequel titled The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day in 2009 that brought back creator Troy Duffy and stars Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus. Now the three of them might be teaming up to bring it back again, this time as a prequel television series. Deadline is reporting that Duffy is on-board to write the origin story of brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus, and Flannery and Reedus are “in talks” to join the project as co-executive producers. So if that’s something you’ve been looking for, big day for you. (Reedus is a little old and a little busy to be starring in a prequel, one assumes.)
Sayeth Duffy:
“For years I’ve been obsessed with telling a real origin story with Boondock, and IM Global TV has stepped up,” Duffy said. “Television is the perfect medium to explore these controversial characters on a much deeper level and to bring Boondock Saints to a whole new audience.”
Couple additional notes:
– The project is being developed by a production company called IM Global TV, not a network, so there’s no definitive answer for where it’ll end up or if it gets made, which it might not. That’s Hollywood for ya.
– Duffy is a, uh, colorful character. If you haven’t read up on his rags-to-riches-to-different-rags story, I recommend doing that. Or just watch Overnight.
