When we first began to glean plot details of the Full House sequel Fuller House back in April, we learned that the series would start off with D.J. Tanner as a pregnant widow and mother of two boys whose husband recently passed away. Even for the sequel of a show that originally had a father inviting his best friend and brother-in-law to move in with him after his wife and mother of his three children passed away — that’s super messed up!
Well, I guess the creators finally realized that, because the series will no longer have D.J. as a pregnant widow. She’ll just be a regular old garden variety widow and her husband will have died at some point in the indeterminate past. Whew!
“She’s actually not pregnant anymore. The baby’s been born,” star Candace Cameron Bure told The Hollywood Reporter at a Television Critics Association press tour event Wednesday. “We didn’t start it off quite so heavy so some more time has passed than they originally intended.”
“It is tragedy that starts off the show, which was like the original Full House, but the themes are always heartfelt, it’s always a situation you can always learn something from,” she said. “Tonally, it will feel the same as the original Full House, which is heartfelt and funny and family friendly but its current. It’s today’s time.”
In other Fuller House news, Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit, who played Jesse and Becky’s twin boys Nicky and Alex, respectively, will also be reprising their roles. Blake, who is now a 24-year-old firefighter (whereas Dylan is a Foley artist who has worked on Game of Thrones), posted the following photo to Instagram this week:
