A Very Murray Christmas hits Netflix on Dec. 4, just in time for you and your family to sit ’round the ol’ laptop and have grandma ask, “Who’s that beanpole?” “It’s Miley Cyrus.” “And who’s that with the creepy mustache?” “Michael Cera.” “And who’s that handsome fella?” “C’mon, grandma, how do you not know who George Clooney is? It’s like you’ve never seen Sunset Beat.”
The Sofia Coppola-directed holiday special, “an homage to the classic variety show featuring Bill Murray playing himself, as he worries no one will show up to his TV show due to a terrible snowstorm in New York City,” seriously stars every famous person ever. Outside the names already mentioned, there’s Paul Shaffer, Amy Poehler, Julie White, Dimitri Dimitrov, Chris Rock, David Johansen, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Jenny Lewis, and Rashida Jones. (Murray, Schwartzman, Shaffer, Johansen, and Phoenix, whose lead singer is married to Coppola, are also working on a themed single.)
Like the trailer above says, A Very Murray Christmas has food, booze, and attractive people — what more could you want? You’re right: Scrooged references.
