There’s no new footage in the teaser HBO just released for Game of Thrones season six. But there is the ultimate tease. “They have no idea what’s going to happen,” the voiceover says, a clever wink, nod, and middle finger to book readers, who are now completely in the dark. You (they) know nothing.
The teaser also doubles as a greatest hits collection of Game of Thrones‘ most memorable deaths and injuries. There’s Ned Stark, of course, as well as Jaime losing his hand, the Red Wedding, and Bran (he’s back!) going to town on some Wights. Plus, this Jon Snow fellow you might have read about.
As for the identity of the trolling narrator: It sounds like the legendary Max Von Sydow, who was cast as Bran’s tree-dwelling tutor, the Three-Eyed Raven. He and Gwendoline Christie probably swapped stories about working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, while the rest of the cast begged for spoilers. Emilia Clarke even offered to give away the entire plot of Terminator Genisys, but no one was interested.
Game of Thrones returns for season six in April 2016.
