Let’s face it, though we may love Alec Baldwin around here, he’s a towering as$hole. There’s really no way around it. One does not get into headline-making confrontations with other human beings every six months or so over a sustained period of years like Baldwin has without being one. So it was only a matter of time before Baldwin melted down on someone once again. This time it was a New York Post reporter and her photographer, who is black.
This latest, possibly racist outburst started when Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria Thomas, was sued by someone who sustained an injury at her yoga studio. Over the weekend, the Post dispatched a reporter and photographer to stalk the couple outside their East Village apartment building and, naturally, Baldwin apparently lost it when he was greeted by them when he went outside to walk his dogs.
Baldwin had first been approached by a Post reporter while walking his dogs outside his East 10th Street pad at around 10:50 a.m. He was asked for comment on a lawsuit against his wife, Hilaria, involving her work as a yoga instructor.
The “30 Rock’’ star grabbed the reporter, Tara Palmeri, by her arm and told her, “I want you to choke to death,” Palmeri told police, for whom she played an audiotape of the conversation.
He then called G.N. Miller — a decorated retired detective with the NYPD’s Organized Crime Control Bureau and a staff photographer for The Post — a “coon, a drug dealer,’’ Miller’s police statement said.
Baldwin later took to Twitter to explain his side, as is his proclivity: “Thank u 2 NYPD officers who came to my home 2day so that I could file a formal complaint against NY Post ‘photographer’ who assaulted me.” He added, “ex-crackhead ‘photographer’ shows up at my door w 1 of Murdoch’s nieces in tow.” He later deleted the tweets.
In Alec Baldwin’s defense, the Post is a crappy trashrag and it was really cold in NYC this past week. Sadly, however, the still-inescapable truth is that Alec Baldwin is an as$hole.
Let’s just hope he’s not a mildly racist as$hole on top of that.
