Allison Janney is the rare performer who excels in both comedy and drama. While this skill is helpful for her career, it’s also useful when doing dramatic readings of ’70s rock songs. Upon learning that Janney would perform nursery rhymes and pop songs in a dramatic tone as an acting exercise, Stephen Colbert insisted that she join him in a reading of Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded.”
While most Foreigner songs require a higher octave to cover, here Janney and Colbert use a more conversational tone to get their lyrics out. Eventually, this turned into a yelling match between the two, with each trying to convince the other that they were indeed hot-blooded. It made for a funnier Foreigner cover than most of the karaoke nights I’ve been dragged to.
