Even though she may have been unjustly shut out at the Emmys (but remaining a gangsta anyway), Amy Poehler continues to do her thing and do it well. Her production company, Paper Kite Productions, had a very excellent week, selling two pilots to NBC and one to ABC.
ABC’s Aunt Jill will be about the titular aunt’s reinvention of her life as she enters a different stage. One NBC pilot, Pre-Madonna, is the brainchild of Transparent and Mr. Robot director Nisha Ganatra about her Chicago childhood, and the other is Dumb Prince, about a reluctant royal who tries to run away from his responsibilities.
As has been her strategy all along, it’s great to see that two of these pilots are female-centric and will give women voices that they aren’t often afforded in Hollywood. Between Broad City, Difficult People, and her organization, Smart Girls, Poehler has consistently worked to give all women a platform for their ideas and stories to be told. Basically, she’s a real-life Leslie Knope.
These pilots should be a part of the 2016 fall lineup, so comedy fans have something to look forward to. Now, can we get Poehler herself back on our televisions weekly? Please?
