The MTV Movie Awards air tonight, and comedian Amy Schumer is hosting. Schumer has been a breakout star over the past few years thanks to the success of her sketch series Inside Amy Schumer and her 2013 stand-up special Mostly Sex Stuff. Schumer’s honest, no-holds-barred comedy has found her a huge audience.
Here’s some of her material everyone should know…
Predictable Porn Endings
When Schumer named her special Mostly Sex Stuff, she meant it. In this bit she talks about her love of porn, but also her frustration with its predictability. As she astutely points out, every movie ends the same way (“spoiler alert: he c*** in her face!”). It’s an amusing angle to look at the porn world, and you can’t help but think the genre would benefit from a bit of variation.
Class it Up
Here Schumer reveals herself to be a master of the misdirection. It starts when she brags about finally sleeping with her high school crush, then leads us down a disturbing road (“now he expects me to go to his graduation! How am I supposed to know what I’ll be doing it three years!”). She goes in a similar direction when talking about her mother (“she’s always bragging about she can still fit into her wedding dress… although I guess it is impressive she’s the same weight as whens she was eight months pregnant.”). Schumer is always a crafty in her routines, and this bit shows that you never can quite tell what direction she’s going to take a joke in.
Her Friend Denise

Even Schumer’s raunchiest material on Comedy Central feels a bit tame when compared to this bit from her 2011 stand-up album Cutting. She talks about her friend Denise who… is evidently rather promiscuous (just listen to the clip). Later, she reveals that Denise is a real person, who signed a waiver so that Schumer could call her a whore on television. If that’s not true friendship, I don’t know what is.
Flirting With Mexican Audience Members/Old People

Another clip from Cutting, here Schumer flirts with two Hispanic audience members, and expresses disappointment when their names turn out to be Mike and George (“even the Mexicans are white here!”). This goes into a bit about how old people are cute because they shrink (“Osteoporosis is adorable!”). Finally she has an encounter with an old woman wants her to join her church. She rebukes her by noting that as a Jewish person, she technically found Jesus first.
Charlie Sheen Roast
Amy Schumer’s earth-scorching performance during the Charlie Sheen roast likely introduced a lot of people to her comedy. She spares no one here, going for the jugular with every target in the audience. Her cruelest — and best — joke comes at the expense of poor Steve-O, whose Jackass cohort Ryan Dunn had recently died. “I know you were thinking ‘it could’ve been me,’ and the rest of us were thinking ‘why wasn’t it?'” Up until this point, it had all been in good fun, but Steve-O looks genuinely shocked by this joke. Hey, if you can stun one of the stars of Jackass by being excessively cruel, you must be doing something right.
