Next up on the list of generally likable celebrities taking the thankless gig of hosting an awards ceremony is Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg, who will host the 67th annual Emmy Awards. With this year’s broadcast airing on Fox at 8 PM ET on September 20, the gig was obviously going to be gifted to one of the network’s best and brightest, and since Will Forte’s inflatable friends are probably busy that night, Detective Jake Peralta was a perfect choice. Does that mean that Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s chances of winning Outstanding Comedy Series are reduced? Not at all. But everyone already knows that Modern Family has already been engraved on the statues.
As for Samberg, he was just about as goofy as you’d expect in announcing his excitement for his latest job.
“Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers!,” Samberg said in a statement. “Like, in general you should buckle your seat belts in your car. In fact, even if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt. It can be dangerous on the road. Also, if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should strongly consider becoming one this year, because I’m hosting, and it’s gonna be a wild ride. So buckle your seat belts.” (Via TV Line)
Just give us something as wonderful as that “Everything is Awesome” performance from the Oscars and our seatbelts will be buckled. Or promise to pull a Kanye West when Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn’t win something. Either way, no one’s expectations for an awards show should ever be high again, so let’s treat this news as a positive.
