Anna Paquin is returning to TV for a program that presumably won’t be as “liberal” with accent choices as her last gig.
According to TV Line, the True Blood actress is earmarked for a starring role in the ABC drama pilot Broken. This Reese Witherspoon exec-produced offering will feature Paquin as “a ruthless Dallas divorce attorney whose life begins to unravel when her emotionally damaged, love-addicted sister resurfaces.” Will Paquin learn the value of ruth? That depends on if the Alphabet Network elects to pick up the show which also has L.A. Law star Blair Underwood, Grey’s Anatomy vet T.R. Knight, and Wolf Hall actress Charity Wakefield on board for the ride.
There’s no guarantee the would-be series will lock in a proper show order, but you’ll still get Paquin on TV this year without the need to track down an afternoon replay of Fly Away Home. The 33-year-old Academy Award-winner will be among the star-studded cast for History’s retelling of Roots. In addition to Paquin, the series boasts names like Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, and “Whatever You Like” recording artist T.I. This ambitious four-night, eight-hour event series will kick off on Memorial Day.
