The extremely popular “Carpool Karaoke” segment from CBS’ The Late Late Show With James Corden is coming to Apple Music as a standalone series, but there’s some bad news — James Corden himself won’t be a part of it. NME reports that Apple Music has ordered 16 new episodes of the segment, which will air weekly on the music streaming service in the very near future.
Although Corden will be missing from the series, CBS Studios, Ben Winston — executive producer of The Late Late Show — and his production company will all have their hand in producing the new version of Carpool Karaoke. On the series, celebrities will continue to perform their favorite songs during a car ride, of course, but they will also surprise their fans along the way, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Winston released a statement voicing his excitement about the partnership with Apple Music:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Apple Music on this exciting new series of Carpool Karaoke. The joy of Carpool is both the intimacy it creates, while seeing the love our passengers have for music. Where better to showcase that than with Apple Music?”
Apple’s Senior VP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue is also happy to add the series to the streaming service:
“We love music, and Carpool Karaoke celebrates it in a fun and unique way that is a hit with audiences of all ages. It’s a perfect fit for Apple Music — bringing subscribers exclusive access to their favorite artists and celebrities who come along for the ride.”
The brand new host of the half-hour series will be announced “soon” along with a premiere date, THR reports. The segment will also remain on The Late Late Show.
