Whether or not you liked Full House‘s nostalgia-driven Netflix revival, Fuller House, a report that the new series achieved monstrous viewing numbers has thrown plenty of fresh gasoline onto the garbage fire that is television reboots. Hell, even broadcast is (and has been) getting in on the action with The X-Files, Prison Break and other properties. So what’s to stop Fox’s goofy family sitcom, Malcolm in the Middle, from getting its own turn with a fresh batch of episodes featuring the original cast? Besides, if the Power Rangers reboot’s new Zordon has his way, such a reunion might actually happen in the not too distant future.
E! News caught up with Bryan Cranston at the Maui Film Festival and asked whether audiences would see a Malcolm in the Middle reunion. Considering the Breaking Bad star’s previous comments on the matter, the actor unsurprisingly said, “I sure hope so”:
For no other reason than I miss those people like crazy… I’d love to. There’s a possibility we want to start talking about the possibility of putting together a story that makes sense about that family 10 years later, 12 years later or whatever. It’s not unheard of.
Questioned about the possibility of working with Netflix, just as Fuller House and the upcoming Gilmore Girls revival did, Cranston turned coy:
I don’t know how it works. I don’t know how everything works anymore but all I want to do is tell the story and have a good experience.
That anything is actually happening behind the scenes regarding a potential Malcolm in the Middle reunion seems doubtful. Considering Cranston’s repeated insistence on wanting to play bumbling dad Hal again, however, and star Frankie Muniz’s tweeted quips about the possibility in September, who knows? Maybe viewers will finally find out what happened after Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) comforted Hal after his Breaking Bad-like nightmare.
