No one can escape the viral reach of the mighty Jimbo Cordo. As a result, we’re getting another Late Late Show special airing in a not that late late of a timeslot. You or possibly your mom may want to make a note of it.
The YouTube nip that is Carpool Karaoke is being ushered to a more reasonable hour for another one-off appearance. The very elegantly titled The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special 2017 has been announced for May 22. In their press crowing, CBS makes a point to note that the first special won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special, so you can imagine why the network would bullish on doing a sequel. An all-new Carpool Karaoke, Toddlerography, plus James Corden’s favorite Late Late Show moments are being teased for the program, although the collection of guests that will pop up has not been announced. Fingers crossed, John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band fans/patriots everywhere.
With Stephen Colbert’s ratings on the rise and the Late Show finding its groove, CBS has an interesting 1-2 punch in their late night programming. Colbert provides political commentary and a bit more serious (but still silly) late night option, followed by Corden who has viral-friendly segments galore and a completely different interview format. They’re compatible yet different, y’know?
