It’s that gloriously agonizing time of year where die-hard and casual viewers are keeping an eye on what shows may or may not be on the chopping block. CBS has already stated that reliable ratings-nip like The Big Bang Theory and NCIS have been given renewals, but now the Eye Network has blessed 11 more shows with the promise of a new season. The near-dozen offerings set to return are definitely a subject of interest, although it’s the (current) omissions that will be sparking a bit of online panic. (And probably nursing home fistfights seeing as we’re talking about CBS.)
Renewed for another season are both the Los Angeles and New Orleans flavors of NCIS, Elementary‘s good for a fifth season of sleuthing, Madam Secretary (the Téa Leoni political drama you keep forgetting exists) is coming back and so is the geeks-in-danger series Scorpion. Friday staples Hawaii Five-O and Blue Bloods have been renewed which means you won’t have to explain to your dad how to change the DVR. Durable reality offerings Survivor and The Amazing Race will remain on the slate with 2 Broke Girls and Mom also sticking around.
So what’s not out of the woods just yet? Freshman superhero drama Supergirl hasn’t been granted renewal status at this juncture, although CBS CEO Les Moonves suggested earlier this month that it’ll stick around, so absorb that how you will. Also without word of another season is the long-running “grisly death + Greg off Dharma & Greg” procedural Criminal Minds, an awkward spot for the show as its 11th season winds down. CSI: Cyber, Limitless, Code Black, Life in Pieces and Criminal Minds: Hey! This One Has Gary Sinise! join these shows in waiting for word on their future.
To answer a question you weren’t asking, no, Armed and Famous is not coming back.
