Robin Williams, the legendary Oscar-winning actor and comedian, passed away today. In memory of the man who tickled our funny bone for decades and brought us some of the most iconic films and TV shows, we’ve unearthed the veteran actor’s first ever appearance on Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show. Before he was Patch Adams or Professor John Keating, Williams was a budding star who still got nervous when it came to on-screen interviews.
His wacky late-night talk show debut is exactly what you’d expect it to be: zany and hilarious. Williams came on to promote the fourth season of Mork & Mindy, a show on which he would be able to work with his own comedy hero Jonathan Winters. The two would later appear on The Tonight Show together.
A fond farewell to one of the funniest men on the planet.
