After two strong seasons on Netflix, it was assumed that Daredevil would get a third season as the Marvel world-building continued on the streaming site, but nothing was official until Thursday night’s Luke Cage Comic-Con panel, when the third season was officially announced. The details are scant and there is still no official release date, but it’s good to have confirmation for another season of Matt Murdock and company cleaning up the streets of Hell’s Kitchen, kicking ninja ass, and ruminating over Catholic guilt.
Season two saw the introduction of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, who is getting his own Netflix series as well. While not everything in season two landed, the introduction of Frank Castle and his interactions with Daredevil were some of the best material the show has ever dealt with. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a real knack for world building, and the smaller scale Marvel Universe on Netflix is possibly even more masterful. The culmination will be The Defenders, which will bring together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the upcoming Iron Fist to form a realer world version of the Avengers.
It’s exciting to know exactly which projects are on the way, but the wait will be long and oh-so-frustrating. Honestly, the sooner the better.
