Vincent Margera, better known as “Don Vito” to fans of MTV’s Jackass and Viva La Bam, died early Sunday morning from liver and kidney failure. He was 59 years old. Don Vito was a frequent target of the Jackass guys jackassery, particularly from his nephew, Bam, who frequently reduced his uncle to angry gibberish. (His nickname is a reference to The Godfather‘s Don Corleone.)
Margera, who has been battling kidney and liver failure for years, fell into a coma in October… He collapsed at his home in Pennsylvania. Bam’s mother explained his liver failure was a result of a lifetime of excessive drinking. Despite waking up four days [ago], his organs continued to fail. (Via)
In 2007, Margera was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault on a child — once the verdict was revealed, he collapsed to the floor and yelled, “I can’t go to prison for the rest of my life. Just kill me. I didn’t do anything.” He was sentenced to 10 years of probation, and had to give up his “Don Vito” alter ego. Margera’s the second member of the Jackass family to die in recent years, the other being Ryan Dunn, who was killed in a car crash.
