Donald Trump’s been making waves ever since he announced his presidential candidacy and, in doing so, characterized Mexicans as drug dealers and rapists. In the aftermath, CNN’s Don Lemon interviewed Donald Trump on a variety of subjects, including his thoughts on being ditched by NBC, Univision, and now Macy’s. Trump said Macy’s “folded under pressure,” and NBC cut ties “because they’re weak.”
Trump battered a few key opponents. He has “absolutely no idea” why Jeb Bush is beating him in the polls, but “the last thing we need is another Bush.” The Bush family is good at “sitting on boards and picking up checks,” whereas Chris Christie is “a good man” with “a lot of problems.” Trump insisted that the GOP leaders take him very seriously, and “they call all the time.” Lemon was ready to move onto Trump’s immigration mess, and so was Trump:
“I love the Mexican people … I’m not talking about Mexico. I’m talking about illegal immigration, and it has to be stopped. It’s killing our country. People are pouring over the borders. We have incredible border patrols. These are incredible people, and they can’t do anything. I guess some come from Mexico, but they come from all over the world. By the way, they come from the Middle East. We don’t even know where they come from.”
Lemon persisted, asking why Donald had to call Mexicans rapists.
“Oh well, if you look at the statistics on rape, on crime, on everything coming illegally into this country. They’re mind boggling. if you go to Fusion, you will see a story about 80% of the women coming in … go to Fusion, and pick up the stories on rape, and it’s unbelievable when you look at what’s going on. All I’m doing is telling the truth.”
Lemon replied that he was familiar with the Fusion story that talks about women getting raped, not about rapists coming into the United States. To which Trump replies, “Somebody’s doing the raping, Don. The thing is women being raped, well, then who’s doing the raping?”
Just for kicks, this image is making the rounds right now:
