Despite predicting that the “stunt of a magazine” would “soon be dead,” Donald Trump was named Time‘s the Person of the Year, because it’s just been that kind of year, hasn’t it? To celebrate the honor that was once bestowed upon Adolf Hitler, the President-elect spoke to Matt Lauer on Wednesday’s episode of the TODAY show, where he called fellow NBC series SNL “terrible.” Trump has repeatedly complained about the “boring and unfunny” sketch series on Twitter, including in the most recent episode, which practically trolled him into responding. He followed through. “Just tried watching Saturday Night Live – unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can’t get any worse. Sad,” he tweeted, to which Alec Baldwin responded, “Release your tax returns and I’ll stop.”
On the TODAY Show, Trump said that when he hosted SNL, “it was a good show, but it’s not a good show anymore.” He continued, “Nothing to do with me — there’s nothing funny about it. The skits are terrible. I mean, I like Alec, but his imitation of me is really mean-spirited and not very good. I don’t think it’s good. I do like him, and I like him as an actor, but I don’t think his imitation of me gets me at all. And it’s meant to be very mean-spirited, which is very biased. I don’t like it. So I can tweet that out.”
Then why keep watching, Lauer wondered, if you hate it so much? “Frankly, the way the show is going now — and you look at the kind of work they’re doing,” Trump responded, “who knows how long that show is going to be on? It’s a terrible show.” Someone clearly hasn’t seen David S. Pumpkins.
(That’s because he looks like a pumpkin. It hits too close to home.)
