Doris Roberts, the lovable yet prickly matriarch of the long-running television series Everybody Loves Raymond, has died at age 90. According to a family representative, Roberts died in her sleep on Sunday night in Los Angeles. The actress portrayed Marie Barone for every season of the show and captured hearts and many a fan with her portrayal of the Italian mother who only wanted the best for her sons, even if she ruffled everyone else’s feathers in the process. Over 210 episodes, Marie nitpicked and frustrated people and forced her opinions on everyone — especially her family.
But through it all, the audience loved Marie because Doris Roberts was a performer who was impossible not to adore. In the wake of the announcement, which TMZ confirmed first, the people who worked alongside her through those seasons tweeted out their thoughts and memories.

Ray Romano, while not on Twitter, gave the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter about Roberts’ death:
“Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped. Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly.”
Of course, Roberts was also beloved for many projects besides Everybody Loves Raymond, and her long list of projects gave her fans of all ages and comedic preferences. There is the aforementioned Grandma’s Boy, TV projects in the ’70s and ’80s like Remington Steele and Barney Miller, and more contemporary comedies like The Middle and Melissa & Joey. Her first job in Hollywood was all the way back in 1961 and she worked steadily right up until the present day, with multiple projects left to be released.
