Everyone’s got a favorite Drunk History episode. Mine was the one about Dolly Parton, but that’s all changed now that this magnificent video of Crissle West telling the story of Harriet Tubman has dropped. Not only is Tubman played by Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer, but this retelling of the Tubman story features the line “Harriet Tubman is coming with her army full of bad bitches,” which was definitely not in any of the history books I read as a kid.
One of the best things about this video is how Spencer is both totally into it and also totally over it. You can almost see her glaring at West for being so drunk and you can’t tell whether that disapproval is hers or Harriet Tubman’s. Either way, if we needed evidence as to why Tubman belongs on the $10 bill, this episode of Drunk History is certainly very convincing.
