The ‘DuckTales’ Reboot Is Officially Coming To TV Next Summer

The DuckTales reboot was first announced back in February, and really, the main question since has been “When can we watch it?” The answer is now confirmed to be nex summer, and more details have come out as well. No, we still don’t know why cartoon ducks don’t wear pants, but we know what Launchpad McQuack looks like:

Entertainment Weekly revealed a few things about the show, starting with the fact that it’ll have 21 half-hour episodes and two hour-long specials. And no, they won’t be changing the theme song. They’ll also be bringing back the whole gang, including Launchpad, Duckworth the butler, Gyro Gearloose (and presumably his superheroic alter ego Gizmoduck), Magica De Spell, and Webigail, who will be showing up in more of a regular role, because otherwise it’d be a bunch of male ducks running around, and nobody wants that.

It’ll be interesting to see how the franchise is received in 2016. Inspired by the classic adventure comics that are still ongoing elsewhere in the world, DuckTales was a very different take on Disney stories and touched off an afternoon cartoon renaissance in the ’80s and ’90s so fondly remembered we all fell for a Darkwing Duck revival hoax. Can it revive the magic on basic cable? We’ll find out soon enough.
