It’s one of the great Internet rumors of all-time, that Ol’ Dirty Bastard auditioned for the role of the titular talking horse in a Mister Ed reboot. The facts are these: in 2004, Fox commissioned a pilot, with David Alan Basche as Wilbur and The Jeffersons star Sherman Hemsley as Mr. Ed, but the unessential remake wasn’t picked up (sadly, its writer, Drake Sather, also committed suicide shortly thereafter). A year later, in 2005, WFMU’s Beware of the Blog alleged that they were sent ODB’s audition tape, which they then uploaded online and you can hear below.
