I’ll bet you had no idea that the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was actually all about the blues. Think about it: A plucky young man leads a hard-knock life in the city and travels across the country to find himself leading a new life in a whole new kind of world. That’s totally a blues song! YouTube musician samuraiguitarist — who also did a bluegrass take on the Game of Thrones theme song — enlisted his friend Jeff Gagne to put together a fantastic cover of the famous ’90s ditty that will make you wonder: “Would every ’90s rap song make a good blues song?”
Answer: Obviously. And if not a rap song, then there’s always the croony, speakeasy approach.
