After one season, FX is pulling the plug on The Comedians. The series starred Josh Gad and Billy Crystal, and acted as Crystal’s triumphant return to television. Showrunner Ben Wexler made the official announcement on Twitter last night:
#TheComedians is cancelled at FX. I could not be more proud of the work we all did.

The rather meta series was hit and miss from the start, and according to THR — even with the talent behind the show — The Comedians never fully caught on with audiences:
Despite its star power and a creative team that included Larry Charles and Matt Nix, the remake of the Swedish series opened to 878,000 viewers in live-same-day returns. The comedy wrapped its 13-episode run June 25 with 306,000 same-day viewers.
Other comedies canceled by the network after one season include the animated series Chozen and Unsupervised, which puts the recently nixed project with odd company. Hey, at least the Ben Wexler/Larry Charles outing received an Emmy nod for the Mel Brooks episode. That’s got to count for something!
