Ramsay Bolton Actor Says Performance Is Based On Liam Gallagher From Oasis

Out of all the bad guys on Game of Thrones (and there are a lot of them), none is as terrible as Ramsay Bolton. At least with Tywin Lannister, you’ve got a man whose motivations make sense; he may be cruel, but that cruelty is in service to the survival of his house and family. But Ramsay is a pure sadist who loves inflicting pain for pain’s sake. When a character has you thinking maybe Sansa Stark was better off with Joffrey Baratheon, you know you’re dealing with particularly dark shade of evil.

Ramsay is played by Welsh actor Iwan Rheon, who was previously best known as Simon Bellamy in the UK show Misfits. Simon was a special individual in his own right, and Iwan’s performance through three seasons of the series undoubtedly helped Rheon land his role on Game of Thrones. When he pitched his idea of how Ramsay should be played, Iwan recently told NME Magazine he saw the disturbed bastard son of Roose Bolton as “somewhere between the Joker from The Dark Knight and Dennis the Menace, with a little bit of Liam Gallagher in there.”

That’s not a very flattering comparison for the former Oasis lead singer, who hasn’t done much since the end of the band other than rack up numerous personal testimonies that he’s a “f*cking idiot.” And Iwan Rheon isn’t the first actor from the UK to take inspiration from the rock star. Sacha Baron Cohen recently revealed that his latest character Grimsby shares Liam’s Oasis-era hair-do as a mock tribute to the time Gallagher threatened to stab the comedian in the eye.

Sounds like something Ramsay Bolton would do.
