Memorial Day Weekend Preview: ‘Game Of Thrones,’ A ‘Roots’ Remake And A Disney Channel Movie Marathon

Game of Thrones (HBO, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Last week’s episode was brutal— if you’re still curled up in a ball screaming “Hold the Door” at a blank TV screen, we don’t blame you. We’re only a handful of episodes into season six and already the show’s giving us answers (or at least promises of answers) to some pretty big questions. It looks like GOT is continuing that trend Sunday night when Sam takes Gilly to meet his family, Jamie finally confronts the High Sparrow (with a few hundred soldiers as backup) and Arya weighs whether she really wants to be one of the faceless men.

Roots (A&E, History, Lifetime, Monday 9 p.m.) — The first of this four-night series follows Gambian warrior Kunta Kinte’s early life, from his birth to his warrior-training and later his capture by rival tribesmen who sell him to white slavers.

Disney Channel Original Movie Marathon (Disney, Friday – Monday) — It’s time to binge-watch your childhood all over again. Disney’s airing all of its best original movies (think Brink, Johnny Tsunami, Smart House and of course Zenon). The marathon begins Friday at 10 a.m. and goes through the entire weekend (for a full schedule, head here). Zetus Lapetus this is exciting!

Outlander (Starz, Saturday 9 p.m.) — Claire and Jamie are continuing their plan of stopping the Jacobite rebellion, this time on Scottish soil. The pair visit Jamie’s grandfather to elicit support but he seems to have plans of his own and we get to say hello again to a certain Scottish lord.

National Memorial Day Concert (PBS, Sunday 8 p.m.) — Actors Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise host this annual salute to America’s military heroes. This year the event will honor heroes buried at Arlington’s National Cemetery. Some big names slated for the special include the Beach Boys, Katharine McPhee, Trace Adkins and American Idol winner Trent Harmon.

The Girlfriend Experience (Starz, Sunday 8 p.m.) — Living a double life seems to really be getting to Christine as she scrambles to keep her job at the law firm and her nights as a call girl from colliding.

American Ninja Warrior: All Stars (NBC, Sunday 9 p.m.) — The two teams picked by hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila battle it out in a supersized competition. Giant peg boards, 40 foot Salmon Ladders, Flying Shelf Grabs and a “Mega Wall” are on the menu.

Penny Dreadful (Showtime, Sunday 10 p.m.) — Hecate and Ethan must work together in order to survive the desert wasteland they find themselves trapped in.

Veep (HBO, Sunday 10:30 p.m.) — Selina makes a decision that could change everything as she tries to stem a looming financial crisis. Meanwhile, Amy investigates the staff’s personal lives; Catherine struggles with how to tell her mother some big news; and Jonah returns to New Hampshire.

So You Think You Can Dance (Fox, Monday 8 p.m.) — Season 13 kicks off with Maddie Ziegler (that girl from those crazy-cool Sia videos) joining the judges panel for a season that will feature dancers between the ages of 8 and 13.

12 Monkeys (Syfy, Monday 9 p.m.) —As the malfunctioning time machine begins to bring back some deadly visitors, Cole comes face to face with the Witness and Cassie’s hallucinations turn creepy.

Houdini & Doyle (Fox, Monday 9 p.m.) — A traveling medium who uses her psychic abilities to solve crimes completely stumps Houdini & Doyle, who try to get to the bottom of her predictions.

The Detour (TBS, Monday 9/9:30 p.m.) — The Parkers finally make it to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. where the job Nate was banking on is no longer waiting for him. Later, the Parkers try to take down Nate’s company.
