With the wait until the “very bleak” final season of Game of Thrones just beginning, the pressure for both HBO and the show’s cast members to give their bloodthirsty fans something to chew on in the meantime has reached an all-time high. So far, we’ve been assured by Maisie Williams that “sh*t was about to get real,” received the vaguest of hints as to the fate of young Sansa Stark, and even seen rumors possibly confirming the return of Khal Drago. And yet, our bloodlust continues.
Recently however, HBO has been attempting to fill the void in our lives by hosting a mock election called “The GOT Party,” allowing fans of the show to cast their votes for the candidate pairings of either Jon Snow and Lyanna Mormont, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister, Cersei Lannister and Qyburn, or Petyr Baelish and Sansa Stark. So far, over 1.6 million votes have been cast, leading to a tight three-way race between Snow, Littlefinger, and Targaryen. (Cersei’s “burn everyone alive” response to her previous scandal apparently didn’t sit well with voters.) With just over a day left before the polls close, HBO has done what any sensible campaign manager would do and uploaded a series of attack ads aimed at each candidate to their YouTube page, likely in the hopes of pushing any of you fence-sitters out there in a more solid direction.
The above ad for the Dany/Tyrion bill recalls Daenerys’ infamous “breaking the wheel” speech from season five, but loses some points in my book for not flaunting the most obvious ace-in-the-hole that the Mother of Dragons has: her dragons. Call me crazy, but if I were able to command a trio of fire-breathing WMDs the likes of Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion, you’d be damn sure that I’d be bringing it up at every available opportunity.
Littlefinger: “What I’d like to know is what my opponent’s economic plan is for rescuing a politically fractured kingdom that currently owes million of gold dragons to the Iron Bank of Braavos.”
Me: “I’m sorry, did you say something about dragons?”
Check out the attack ads for Snow, Baelish, and Cersei below, then head over to The GOT Party to cast your vote while there’s still time. Suffice it to say, a vote for the latter is essentially a vote for Trump.
