Over the weekend the New York City Wine & Food Festival held it’s annual Burger Bash, an event in which chefs compete to see who can make the best burger. And in what can only be classified as an upset of stunning proportions, UPROXX whipping boy Guy Fieri actually tied three-time champion Josh Capon — an real New York City chef with an extensive and impressive resume — to share the top prize at the competition.
Mac ‘n’ cheese burgers have been popping on menus a lot in recent months, so what made Fieri’s version stand out in the crowd? “It’s all about great flavor and texture,” said Fieri, who sandwiched an all-beef patty, applewood smoked bacon, mac ‘n’ cheese and his famous Donkey Sauce between a toasted brioche roll slathered with garlic butter. ”It has 22 ingredients and six different cheeses for a really well-rounded, well-developed flavor,” he said. “I mean, we’re talking about a burger that is totally out of bounds.”
If you care to make or try the ridiculous winning entry from the murder trial witness and friend-for-hire yourself, People has the full recipe online and it’s being added to the menu at Guy’s culinary abortion clinic in Times Square. Included in the People article is the recipe for Guy’s infamous Donkey Sauce, which I’m sure you’ve all been dying for.
Donkey Sauce
Makes 1¼ cups¼ cup minced roasted garlic
1 cup prepared mayonnaise
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. yellow mustard
¼ tsp. kosher salt
4 turns freshly ground black pepperMix all ingredients until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
To recap: Guy Fieri beat out a number of actual renowned chefs in a burger cooking competition. This can only be viewed as a sign of the coming apocalypse.
