H. Jon Benjamin has a wonderfully versatile voice. It’s the same exact voice in every role, but it somehow works for the weary married owner of a burger joint with three kids and a charismatic international spy and an alcoholic soccer coach. However, as he told Conan O’Brien last night, Benjamin had a moment of panic when he was cast in Archer because he assumed that, as a spy, he would have to do a British accent.
He then performs what he claims to be a “British accent.” It’s horrible. Just absolutely horrible. Is it just me, or did I hear some Foghorn Leghorn in there? It makes Charlie Hunnam’s accent sound completely normal in comparison.
Thankfully, nobody wanted Sterling Archer to have a British accent.
