Hack/Slash is a comic book practically designed for the big screen: The daughter of a supernatural serial killer with a taste for sexy schoolgirl outfits teams up with an enigmatic hunk of muscle to kill slasher movie characters. And yet, it’s been stalled in development hell for a solid decade as a movie. Will it have better luck on TV? We’re about to find out.
The Hollywood Reporter has word that the comic is being turned into a show courtesy of Skip Woods, who has a long if not exactly confidence-inspiring writing career. It’s likely not going to vary too much; it’s a comic book about a hot woman in belly shirts and short skirts beating Jason knock-offs to death, so really there’s not much about that concept Hollywood would change.
As to whether it will be any good… well, the cover of the first issue sums up the book. The comic itself was pretty variable at first, coasting more on its idea and the ability of Stefano Caselli and Federica Manfredi to draw cheesecake than actually digging into the characters. As it’s gone on, it has gotten a little depth to it, but I confess I’d rather see Tim Seeley’s work on undead drama Revival or the oddball superhero drama Sundowners get a shot on TV first. But, hey, we’ll take what we can get; it’s not like there’s any shortage of good comics coming to TV.
